Organic avocado market update: Peru, Kenya, Tanzania and Mexico

In this update, you will read about the latest developments and challenges in the organic avocado market. With a focus on the situation in Peru, Kenya, Tanzania and Mexico.

Peru: changing outlook

Peru's last production zones for this season, Olmos and South, experienced significantly lower production, up to 30% less volume. This has resulted in a decrease in the number of containers of organic avocados entering Europe. We expect the avocado harvest in Peru to be complete by the end of August. This is three weeks earlier than last year.

In terms of sizing, we will see a shift towards larger sizes 16-22 and a reduction in the smaller sizes 24-30. This is common for the Peru region, the longer the avocados stay on the tree and the bigger they get.

Kenya and Tanzania: quality and prospects

Tanzania has closed the harvest due to quality problems and long transit times. Supplies from Kenya are still in full swing, with high-quality avocados due to higher dry matter content, resulting in stronger fruit.

Our Kenyan suppliers expect to continue delivering until week 37. Possibly with some run-out with lower volume. In terms of sizing, we expect a wide range of sizes.

Mexico: unique EU delivery

Despite the fact that Mexican growers export organic avocados mainly to the USA, from the long-standing relationship with our growers in Mexico, we have been able to reserve a number of containers of organic avocados for the European market.

The first container from Mexico is expected in week 37. Delivery is possible until week 52.
